Your Monday morning coffee with 'Our Long Walk'
Most South Africans would have received POPIA emails over the last week. The Protection of Personal Information Act came into effect on 1 July 2021. The Act requires that I obtain your consent to communicate with you in future.
I have taken this opportunity to also reflect on my objectives with the blog. From now on, I will post once a week on Monday mornings. I have also chosen to name the blog 'Our Long Walk' – it is short, simple and reflects my interest in long-run economic change. It refers, of course, also to my recently published book. 'Our Long Walk to Economic Freedom' is now a HomeBru-selection by Exclusive Books.
My posts will cover the same content as before: my Finweek columns (typically two a month) that merge the latest economics research with views from industry leaders, my translated Rapport columns (once a month) that focus on more contemporary economic issues in South Africa, and the latest economic history research by the LEAP team at Stellenbosch University. The positive feedback from my book has reminded me how important it is to disseminate the research we do to a broader audience – and I'd like to do more of it.
If you are keen to keep on receiving these blog posts there is no need to do anything. I hope to keep providing meaningful content for a long time to come. But if your mailbox is already overflowing and you want to opt out, then please click on the unsubscribe button at the bottom of this email.
See you next Monday.
